Head to the career services office today. This is where you’ll find all the tools you need to do a job search.
Start now, not next spring. It takes time to prepare your job-search skills. You’ll want to get your resume critiqued, practice interviewing, do an internship, and pick up leads on employers looking for your major.
Use your network. As the cliché says, “it’s who you know.” Your professional network may hold the key to your first job. Ask your internship supervisor to be a reference. If you have contacts within an organization or an industry, call on them for referrals and recommendations.
Look everywhere. Potential employers are on your campus at job fairs, career fairs, and employer-sponsored information sessions. You’ll find job information and opportunities on company websites and online job boards. You’ll make valuable connections through student professional associations and professional associations.
Be flexible. Take a last-minute internship to add to your professional contacts. Work as a temp in your field. Volunteer for a position that reflects your interests. Expand your networking base by joining professional associations.
