It’s that time of the year when people are knee- deep in their search for summer internships and full-time jobs. It is easy to only focus on submitting the perfect application and landing the perfect interview, but we must not forget that it all starts with the perfect resume.

In my experience as an Intern in Talent Acquisition, one major mistake that many applicants make in their resume is not tailoring their resume to the position to which they are applying.

It is so important to make sure that only relevant skills, jobs, and experiences are on the resume in order to make it easier for the recruiter to evaluate if you are a good fit for the position. Granted, I know it may seem like a lot of work to have separate resumes based on the type of position you are applying for, but it will help with the overall application process.

The easiest way for you to cater your resume is to read the job description of the desired position. From the description, relate some of the responsibilities, qualifications, and skills to the work you have done in the past. Take the time to cater your resume to your desired position and I guarantee it will pay off!
