In this fast-changing world it’s important to keep up-to-date on the latest news, stories, and events, especially in your industry or field of work. Periodicals are a great source that not only keep you updated on the latest news, but also enhance your career development process. So, what exactly are periodicals? A periodical is any published work that is distributed at regular intervals. Examples of periodicals include newspapers, magazines, academic journals, and newsletters.

Keeping up with even just one periodical can be very beneficial. Personally, the periodicals I am subscribed to have helped me learn more about business and technology (the fields I have a strong interest in). I have also found the information from these periodicals to be helpful in interviews and at networking events. When interacting with professionals in your chosen field it’s often helpful to have a current understanding of what is happening in that field, that way you’ll be able to hold a conversation with them on topics related to their career.

So, not sure where to start? Here’s a list of popular periodicals in a variety of industries. :

  • American Journal of Psychology
  • Bloomberg Business Week
  • Economist
  • Forbes
  • MIT Technology Review
  • New England Journal of Medicine
  • New York Times
  • USA Today
